Yanaka Ginza, a charming 170-meter retro shopping street in Tokyo’s Yanesen area (Yanaka, Nezu, Sendagi), offers visitors a unique glimpse into Tokyo’s local life and post-war history. Established after WWII, this lively street is lined with long-standing butcher shops, sweet shops, household goods stores, and traditional eateries that continue to serve the local community with warmth and friendliness.
Recently, trendy cafés and craft stores have also appeared, creating a welcoming blend of old and new. As the sun sets, the street glows orange, and the view from the top of the famous “Yuyake Dandan” staircase is pure Showa-era Tokyo nostalgia.

How to Get to Yanaka Ginza (as of June 2025)
- From JR Yamanote Line or Keihin-Tohoku Line “Nippori Station,” take the West Exit and walk about 5 minutes.
Go down the Yuyake Dandan staircase to reach the entrance of Yanaka Ginza Shopping Street.
- From Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line “Sendagi Station,” take Exit 2 and walk about 7 minutes.
You can access the shopping street from the opposite end via the Yomise-dori route.
