Nihonmatsu Lantern Festival
Held every year for three days starting on the first Saturday of October, the Nihonmatsu Lantern Festival is a traditional event with an impressive 370-year history. As the grand festival of Nihonmatsu Shrine, it is also recognized as one of Japan’s Three Great Lantern Festivals.
The festival’s biggest highlight is the Lantern Procession, where seven massive taiko (drum) floats, lavishly decorated and illuminated with around 300 lanterns each, parade through the streets of Nihonmatsu.
As night falls, the warm glow of the lanterns casts an enchanting light over the floats, creating a breathtaking, almost otherworldly atmosphere. The sound of powerful drumbeats and energetic chants fills the air, immersing the entire town in the festival’s electrifying energy. Tsuruga Castle
